The Dubai Municipality has launched a new rating system for green buildings that will now allow the authorities to rate new buildings based on the green building standards implementation.
The new system will be applicable to all residential, industrial, commercial and all other upcoming buildings and also those build since the implementation of green building code in Dubai since 2014, reported Proud Green Building.
The new rating system consists of four categories: Platinum, gold, silver and bronze. Bronze depicts minimum criteria for a building to meet the green standards and those failing to meet the criteria will not be given permission to build, cited officials of the Dubai Municipality.
The motive behind the new green rating system is to achieve high performance of buildings that will promote both human and environmental health and also strengthens the design, planning, operation and implementation of the buildings.
This new concept is predicted to help Dubai in achieving the smart and sustainable city status by 2021.
With the new rating system will be mandatory for all the buildings that will take permits from September 1, buildings that are already certified as green should also apply for a new one in lieu of the new rating system.
