Top 10 World’s Greatest Polluters

According to the survey of International Energy Agency, here are the 10 world’s greatest polluters ranked according to their per-capita and absolute greenhouse gas emissions. Biggest cities around the world account for 71% of world’s greenhouse gas emissions.

1. China ranked number one in the list of world’s greatest polluters. According to the survey, China emits more than 6000 million tons of greenhouse gas each year. About a third of Chinese carbon emissions are the result of producing goods for export.

2. United States ranked number two in the list of greatest polluters. It emits almost close to 6000 million tons of greenhouse gas per year.

3. Number three place occupied by Russia that emits about 1700 million tons of greenhouse gas per year. Russia has increased its effort in the reduction of greenhouse gases.

4. India is the fourth country among the world’s greatest polluters that emits about 1200 million tons of greenhouse gas every year. India announced that it will reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by 20-25% by 2020.

5. Japan is the fifth biggest polluter that emits about 1200 million ton of greenhouse gas each year. Japan targets to decrease its emission by 15% by 2020. Japan stated that it is the world’s greatest energy efficient and it will try to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by maintaining strict environmental protection laws.

6. Germany comes at sixth place in the list of world’s greatest polluters that emits about 800 million tons of greenhouse gas per year. Most of the pollution is the result of industries and coal burning utilities that lead to acid rain, emission of sulfur dioxide, and air pollution.

7. Canada is the seventh biggest polluter that emits about 600 million tons of greenhouse gas per year. More than half of the pollution in Canada is due to industries.

8. Britain is the eighth greatest polluter that emits about 550 million tons of greenhouse gas per year.

9. South Korea is the ninth world’s greatest polluters that emit about 500 million tons of greenhouse gas each year.

10. Iran is the tenth biggest polluter that emits about 450 million tons of greenhouse gas per each year.
